Our own
home, a two-story Heights house built in 1912, was badly in need of updating
when we found it. We demolished the original kitchen, which had been built
onto a rear porch, replacing it with a larger kitchen, mud room, and bathroom,
with a master suite above. Particular care was taken to maintain the spirit
of the original house, a simple cottage-like home with a Victorian-style
floor plan. All the new areas were designed with the original feeling and
proportions of the house in mind, and authentic or compatible materials
were used throughout. The resulting project is a fresh interpretation of
a turn-of-the-century four square.
